Pernambuco reports historic low in violent robberies

Pernambuco has reported a historic low in violent robberies, also known as Violent Crimes Against Property (CVPs), during September 2026. According to the Secretariat of Social Defense (SDS), there were 1,962 occurrences in September, representing a 29.6% decrease compared to the 2,788 cases recorded in September 2025.

Specific categories saw significant declines: vehicle robberies fell by 25%, cargo robberies dropped by 40%, and cell phone thefts decreased by 33.3% in September. Governor Raquel Lyra attributed these improvements to the strengthening of security forces through new equipment and increased police presence.

Despite the reduction in robberies, the state continues to face high homicide rates. Reports indicate 34 homicides occurred over a single weekend in early October, bringing the monthly total to 37. Since the beginning of the year, Pernambuco has recorded 2,131 murders.
