Pernambuco researchers study electric vehicle efficiency and safety
Researchers in Pernambuco are conducting a study through the AIMOBVE project to analyze the efficiency, sustainability, and safety of electric two-wheeled vehicles in urban environments. Coordinated by the Informatics Center of the Federal University of Pernambuco (CIn/UFPE), the initiative involves several partner institutions and is supported by Finep. The project focuses on electric mobility, the Internet of Things (IoT), and energy efficiency, utilizing technical partnership with Aima Nordeste to provide equipment and technical data.
As electric bikes and motorcycles gain popularity, authorities are emphasizing the importance of following National Traffic Council (Contran) regulations to ensure safety. To be classified as an electric bicycle rather than a moped, vehicles must have a motor limit of 1,000 Watts, utilize a pedal-assist system without manual throttles, and automatically cut power at 32 km/h. Adhering to these rules allows riders to operate without a driver's license or vehicle registration, provided they follow specific speed limits and lane requirements.
