Pernambuco sees rise in motorcycle accidents and fatalities

The Federal Highway Police (PRF) has reported a significant increase in motorcycle-related accidents on federal highways in Pernambuco. Between January and August of this year, 1,221 motorcycle accidents were recorded, resulting in 1,401 injuries and 130 deaths. This represents an 18% increase in accidents and a 26% increase in mortality compared to the same period last year.

Key causes identified by the PRF include a lack of driver reaction, entering roadways without observing other vehicles, and delayed or inefficient driver responses. Other contributing factors mentioned include high speeds, riding through moving vehicle lanes, and the “blind spot” phenomenon.

In response to these trends, the PRF is conducting educational and enforcement actions during National Traffic Week to promote safer driving habits and speed reduction.
