Pernik declares partial disaster after road collapse blocks access to strategic gas station
The municipality of Pernik in Bulgaria announced a partial disaster situation, effective until 24 August, after a landslide caused a key municipal road to collapse. The road provides access to a gas‑distribution station in the "Iztoch" district, which authorities say is of strategic importance for national security.
Deputy mayor Adrian Scrimov said the road, although not heavily trafficked, is completely closed to vehicles. An emergency command was activated under the municipal disaster‑protection plan, companies operating the gas station were notified, and police and municipal staff are conducting inspections. The municipality has submitted documents to the inter‑departmental commission to finance a temporary road and to reinforce the landslide‑prone slope.
No injuries have been reported, and officials are monitoring the landslide activity while working on a permanent solution.
