Pernik hosts filming for Bulgarian film ‘The Inspector’s Debt’

Filming has commenced in Pernik for the new Bulgarian feature film, ‘The Inspector’s Debt’ (Dolgovete na inspektora). The project marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Teodora Markova and is a Bulgarian-Latvian-German co-production.

The satirical drama stars Alena Vergova as Niki, an uncompromising 22-year-old debt collector, and Zahari Baharov as Spasov, an influential local policeman who refuses to settle his debts. Their confrontation evolves into a personal conflict that uncovers an old family secret.

The production has already garnered international recognition. In November 2025, it received both the Jury Award and the Audience Award at the Connecting Cottbus co-production market in Germany. Additionally, during the Marché du Film at the Cannes Film Festival, the project won competitions hosted by the Female Film Club Bulgaria and Film Forge, securing 50,000 euros in production services from Nu Boyana Film Studios.
