Pernik unfinished residential block sold after 26 years of issues

An unfinished six-story residential building in the Humini Dol district of Pernik has been sold to a new owner, potentially resolving a decades-long community issue. Construction on the structure began in 1991 but stalled around 2000, leaving the building in a state of neglect for over 26 years.

During its abandonment, the site became a significant source of public disorder. Local authorities reported over 150 incidents involving vandalism, illegal waste dumping, and the unauthorized occupation of the building by individuals without local registration. The property was linked to the ‘Shahtyor’ housing cooperative, which faced complex legal challenges due to deceased members, residents living abroad, and unresolved ownership documentation.

Following an investigation initiated in late 2023 by Pernik Mayor Stanislav Vladimirov and municipal police, officials successfully navigated archival searches and cooperative registrations to facilitate the sale. The new owner intends to commission a detailed structural assessment to evaluate the building's stability and determine the feasibility of future development.
