Peronist Party turmoil spreads across Argentine municipalities

In Comodoro Rivadavia, internal disarray within the local Peronist Party has led to a surge of at least seven mayoral precandidates. Party officials criticize the local council for public attacks on the incumbent mayor, silence on YPF‑related layoffs and a lack of organized debate, describing the situation as “hermetism” that blocks grassroots participation.

In Esteban Echeverría, council president Analía Pérez took a leave of absence citing stress and health concerns. Councilor Ángel Cammilleri said the pressure of public office creates burnout and called for internal party elections, warning against costly primary polls. He also criticised media focus on peripheral issues while larger debates over privatizations and a proposed property‑rights law remain under‑reported.
