Perote Mayor Vinicio Ascencio Takes 90-Day Health Leave, Reverses Resignation

The Veracruz state Congress approved a request by Perote municipal president Vinicio Ascencio Fernández to suspend his duties for 90 days, effectively nullifying the resignation he submitted on 16 June 2026. The temporary leave is granted to address health complications that have required multiple surgeries since April 2026.

During his absence, the registered substitute Miguel Ángel Martínez Dionisio, who served as the town hall secretary, will assume the mayoral responsibilities. No specific medical diagnosis has been disclosed. Ascencio, a member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), was elected for the 2026‑2029 term.
