Perovskite Solar Cell Advances: Green Synthesis and 21.9% Semi‑Transparent Tandem Cells

Researchers at the University of Kentucky reported a room‑temperature, partially green method for producing CsPbBr3‑based perovskite particles using a water‑octadecene biphasic solvent system. By adjusting the water‑to‑ODE ratio, they achieved size‑controlled crystals with strong green photoluminescence and excellent ambient stability, suggesting potential for optoelectronic applications such as LCD backlights.

A team from Gdańsk University of Technology in Poland demonstrated a semi‑transparent perovskite photovoltaic cell reaching 21.87% efficiency. The device employs a p‑i‑n architecture with a solution‑processed tin‑oxide buffer that protects the perovskite layer during indium‑tin‑oxide sputtering, allowing integration into a four‑terminal perovskite/silicon tandem. The cell showed operational stability under indoor and outdoor ISOS protocols, and the researchers highlighted future work on wider‑bandgap perovskites to improve tandem performance.
