Perplexity AI Startup Opts for Nvidia's Vera CPU
AI startup Perplexity confirmed it will use Nvidia's new Vera central processing unit. Nvidia projects the Vera CPU will generate about $20 billion in sales by the end of its fiscal year. Vera is a general‑purpose chip aimed at workloads for AI agents, and Perplexity's vice‑president for computer enterprise and infrastructure, Nate Kupp, said it performed AI coding tasks roughly 1.5 times faster than traditional CPUs.
Perplexity did not disclose how many Vera CPUs it plans to purchase. Nvidia is entering a crowded CPU market long dominated by Intel and AMD, seeking to broaden its product range as AI companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, Oracle, and DeepSeek develop their own chips. The adoption by Perplexity highlights the growing demand for CPUs optimized for AI workloads.
