Perplexity Portable Computer launches on Windows with NVIDIA RTX support

Perplexity has launched its Portable Computer agent on Windows PCs equipped with NVIDIA RTX GPUs. This expansion follows previous support for Linux-based systems and NVIDIA DGX Spark systems.

The tool is designed to execute multi-step tasks locally on a user's device using local AI models, such as the post-trained Qwen 3.8 27B. By utilizing NVIDIA RTX and RTX PRO GPUs with 24GB or more of VRAM, the system can analyze data and consolidate information across files while keeping sensitive information on-device without requiring cloud credits.

While the primary focus is local processing, the software integrates local and cloud AI within a single interface. The system can identify when advanced reasoning is required and will request user permission before routing information to cloud-based models. The platform also includes connectors for various productivity tools, including Microsoft Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Google Drive, Gmail, Slack, and GitHub.
