Persela Lamongan targets Liga 1 promotion with improved squad

Persela Lamongan coach Bima Sakti expressed optimism regarding the team's chances in the 2026/2027 Championship, stating that the squad is more complete than in previous seasons. This confidence follows a 1-0 victory in a friendly match against PSPS Pekanbaru, where local player and new captain Dendy Sulistyawan scored the winning goal.

Bima Sakti noted that the current roster offers more strategic flexibility due to players capable of occupying multiple positions. While optimistic, the coach highlighted the need to improve physical conditioning, midfield cohesion, and coordination between lines.

Dendy Sulistyawan has been appointed as the team captain following discussions with senior players, including former captain Hendro Siswanto. Bima Sakti cited Dendy's dedication to returning to his hometown club despite offers from Liga 1 teams as a key reason for the appointment. The coach hopes Dendy's leadership will motivate younger players, including five local Lamongan players in the squad.
