Pershing Square pivots portfolio with $3.3B fintech investment
Bill Ackman has implemented a significant overhaul of the Pershing Square portfolio, marked by a strategic pivot toward financial technology and payment networks. According to recent filings and shareholder communications, the firm deployed approximately $3.3 billion into three major positions: Visa, Mastercard, and S&P Global. Each of these stakes is valued at roughly $1.1 billion, representing a substantial rebalancing of the firm’s holdings.
This shift follows the successful launch of Pershing Square USA, a closed-end fund that raised $5 billion to provide easier access for U.S. investors. Ackman noted that recent market volatility created attractive entry points for these blue-chip companies, which serve as critical infrastructure in the global financial system.
In addition to these large fintech bets, the firm has taken new positions in Netflix, Intercontinental Exchange, and Alcon. These moves come as Ackman exits previous positions, including Alphabet, Universal Music Group, and Hertz Global, as he seeks to diversify the portfolio beyond its traditional tech-heavy concentration.
