Persio Checo retrospective opens at Centro Cultural Banreservas Santiago
The Centro Cultural Banreservas Santiago has inaugurated ‘Orgánico y Desenfadado’, a retrospective exhibition dedicated to Dominican visual artist Persio Checo. The showcase features works spanning more than four decades of his career, highlighting his role as a member of the ‘Generación de los 80’.
The exhibition includes a variety of paintings and sculptures created from materials such as wood, fabric, masonite, and elements gathered from the marine environment. Checo’s work is characterized by its deep connection to nature, the sea, and memories of his birthplace, Río San Juan, often incorporating organic forms and references to Taíno heritage.
During the opening ceremony, Gladialisa Pereyra, manager of the Centro Cultural Banreservas Santiago, described the exhibition as a celebration of life and a tribute to art’s ability to reinvent the world. The event is part of ongoing initiatives by Banreservas to promote Dominican creative heritage and provide platforms for established artists to reach new audiences.
