Personal accounts of loss and illness shared by Romanian figures

Romanian public figures Leonard Doroftei and Narcis Bujor have shared emotional accounts regarding the deaths of their fathers and the circumstances surrounding their illnesses.

Former boxing champion Leonard Doroftei spoke about the loss of his father, who suffered permanent mobility issues following a construction site accident involving a fall from a height. Doroftei recalled that his father, a former soldier, became paralyzed in his right leg and left hand before losing the ability to speak and eventually passing away shortly after becoming bedridden.

Narcis Bujor discussed the death of his father from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a rare disease that causes muscle atrophy. The condition was discovered incidentally during preparations for a hernia surgery. Bujor noted that although doctors initially provided a two-year prognosis, his father lived for nine years. Bujor also expressed concerns regarding the genetic nature of the disease, noting that his grandmother had also been diagnosed with a similar condition.
