Personal data of Portuguese officials and citizens exposed online
Phone numbers, e‑mail addresses and physical addresses of Portugal’s president, two government ministers, the secretary‑general of the National Information System (SIRP), the director of the Public Security Police and other senior security officials were found for sale on subscription‑based platforms that aggregate personal data. The leak also includes similar details for hundreds of thousands of ordinary Portuguese citizens.
The breach was identified by Italian cyber‑security specialist Andrea Mavilla, who alerted Portugal’s National Cybersecurity Centre (CNCS). CNCS referred the matter to SIRP and the Polícia Judiciária, which have opened an investigation into the source of the data and its legality. Authorities warn that the information could be used for sophisticated phishing and other social‑engineering attacks, posing a serious national‑security risk.
