Da Nang police arrest man for embezzling 4.7 billion VND

Da Nang police have prosecuted and temporarily detained Tran Hoang Vinh Tu, 37, for the crime of “abuse of trust to appropriate property.” The investigation reveals that Tu misappropriated approximately 4.709 billion VND entrusted to him by his aunt, who resides in the United States.

According to authorities, the victim had repeatedly transferred funds to Tu to manage savings and purchase real estate for her future use in Vietnam. To maintain trust, Tu provided the victim with images of bank savings via the Viber app. However, when tasked with placing a deposit on a 4.77 billion VND house in Da Nang, Tu only paid 70 million VND and subsequently fled his residence, cutting off all communication.

Following a report from a real estate broker, investigators tracked Tu down. After being persuaded by law enforcement regarding legal leniency, Tu surrendered to the authorities. The Da Nang Police Investigation Agency is currently gathering further evidence to finalize the case.
