Personal Information Protection Commission launches 2026 privacy week
The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) is conducting ‘2026 Personal Information Protection Week’ from September 28 to October 2. The initiative involves 763 public and private organizations participating in various educational programs and campaigns to foster a culture of data privacy.
The theme of this year’s program focuses on the idea that secure personal information utilization serves as the foundation for artificial intelligence (AI) innovation. Participating entities include the National Tax Service, which is hosting dark web leak experiences and policy idea contests, and the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology Planning and Evaluation, which is providing cybersecurity prevention guidance for R&D researchers.
Private sector companies are also actively involved. E-mart is conducting a password change campaign for approximately 26 million members, while Naver is launching the ‘2026 Privacy Challenge’ and blog events for its users. The PIPC has also distributed instructional materials regarding privacy guidelines for generative AI users.
