Personality traits and relationship dynamics influence female sexual health

Research indicates that personality traits and relationship dynamics play significant roles in female sexual function and desire. A study published in the journal ‘Sexual Medicine’ suggests that women with extroverted tendencies and an openness to new experiences tend to have better sexual lives compared to those who are introverted or less open to novelty.

Separately, analysis of clinical trials for hypoactive sexual desire disorder published in the ‘Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy’ identified a phenomenon termed ‘sex out of duty’. Researchers Nikita Guptan and James A. Simon found that some women engage in sexual activity despite a lack of desire in an effort to maintain relationship stability, preserve emotional closeness, or avoid conflict with a partner. Psychologists note that suppressing personal needs in this manner can be linked to depressive symptoms.
