Perspectives on the evolving American college experience
Various initiatives and perspectives highlight the diverse experiences of college students navigating higher education. In Omaha, College Possible Omaha partnered with the Omaha Storm Chasers to support first-year students. Staff and players wrote notes of encouragement to help students manage the academic, financial, and social challenges of their first year, particularly for those who are the first in their families to attend college.
In the United States, the traditional “college experience” is often associated with living on campus, yet a significant portion of the student population consists of commuters. At Stony Brook University, nearly 50% of students commute. While media often romanticizes residential life, commuting offers a way to avoid the rising costs of housing, provided students actively engage with campus life to build community.
