Fuel queues in Makassar and throughout South Sulawesi have prompted significant government and corporate intervention. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia clarified that the queues are not due to a national shortage, but rather a shift in consumption from non-subsidized to subsidized fuel, alongside illegal hoarding practices involving vehicles with modified, high-capacity tanks.

To address the situation, Pertamina Patra Niaga has implemented several recovery measures, including operating 25 gas stations 24 hours a day, adding more nozzles and operators, and deploying modular gas stations in the Center Point of Indonesia (CPI) area. A odd-even license plate system has also been introduced for two-wheeled vehicles at certain locations to manage congestion.

Local authorities have also responded; the South Sulawesi provincial government has proposed a 30 percent increase in fuel quota to the central government and temporarily implemented remote learning for high schools to reduce mobility during the distribution crisis. Meanwhile, police in Parepare have arrested suspects for using multiple MyPertamina barcodes and modified tanks to illegally acquire subsidized fuel.
