Pertamina Geothermal Energy begins second well drilling for Lumut Balai Unit 3

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) has officially commenced drilling for its second well, LMB-19.4, in the Lumut Balai area. This operation is part of the development for the Lumut Balai Unit 3 geothermal power plant, which is designed to have a capacity of 55 megawatts (MW).

The drilling is being conducted using the GDAP#123 rig in the Muara Enim Regency of South Sumatra. This project follows the initial spud-in of the first exploration well, LMB 19-3, which took place in July 2026. The Lumut Balai Unit 3 project is targeted to reach its full commissioning operation date (COD) by 2030.

PGE aims to use this development to meet increasing electricity demands in South Sumatra and to support its broader corporate targets of achieving 1 gigawatt (GW) of installed capacity by 2028 and 1.8 GW by 2034.
