Indonesia coordinates earthquake relief in NTT and advances geothermal energy projects
Following a magnitude 7.7 earthquake in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT), various Indonesian entities are coordinating disaster relief and infrastructure recovery. Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo has prioritized restoring connectivity, noting that while some areas like Palue Island were temporarily isolated, land access is being reopened. Nine national road sections affected by the quake have already been made functional.
Humanitarian efforts are widespread. Pertamina Patra Niaga has established medical posts in Reo, Manggarai, to provide free healthcare, including consultations and medicine, to refugees. Other organizations, including Petrokimia Gresik and Pupuk Indonesia, have distributed basic necessities such as rice, sugar, and oil. Additionally, members of the DPR and Gapasdap have dispatched 12 trucks of aid, including food and educational toys, specifically targeting the Nagekeo Regency.
In parallel, Indonesia is advancing its clean energy goals. PLN Indonesia Power and Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) have signed a Letter of Intent to purchase 45 MW of electricity from geothermal projects in Lampung and North Sulawesi. This collaboration aims to optimize the nation's geothermal potential to strengthen national energy security and support clean energy transitions.
