Pertamina Geothermal Energy implements sustainable agricultural programs

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) is implementing various community empowerment programs through sustainable agricultural innovations in Indonesia.

In North Sulawesi, the PGE Lahendong area is developing an agroforestry-based palm sugar industry via the ‘Segaris Pelangi’ program. This initiative combines cultivated crops with natural vegetation to maintain forest canopy and ecological functions while boosting the local economy. To date, the program has developed 789 palm trees across 6.7 hectares.

In the Kamojang area of Bandung Regency, PGE has utilized its Geothermal Organic Fertilizer (GeO-Fert) to support local farmers. By using excess geothermal steam to accelerate the drying process of organic fertilizer, the company helped the Cikondang Forest Farmer Group harvest approximately 70 tons of cabbage from 1.2 hectares. The use of this innovation resulted in larger cabbage yields and significant savings in fertilizer costs for the farmers.
