Pertamina Geothermal Energy pushes geothermal power expansion and green data center initiative in Indonesia

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) announced it will use geothermal heat to supply clean baseload power for green data centers, supporting Indonesia’s low‑carbon digital infrastructure. CEO Ahmad Yani said the firm will not operate data‑center businesses but will provide the energy needed. The company expects data‑center electricity demand to rise from about 520 MW in 2025 to 1.8 GW by 2030, creating a large market for geothermal supply.

The listed subsidiary PGEO set an ambition to reach 1 GW of installed geothermal capacity by 2028, increasing to 1.8 GW by 2033 and eventually exceeding 3 GW. In the first half of 2024 it reported revenue of US$235 million (up 14.8% YoY) and net profit of US$79.6 million (up 15.5%). Electricity production grew 13.6% to 2,745 GWh, with availability and capacity factors above 99% and 90% respectively.
