Indonesia accelerates renewable energy transition through geothermal and solar projects

Indonesia is advancing several key renewable energy initiatives to support its national energy transition. PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) aims to reach 1 GW of capacity by 2028, focusing on long-term projects such as Gunung Tiga, Hululais, and Lumut Balai. PGE is also working to increase its public free float from 11.2 percent to 15 percent by 2028 to comply with regulations.

In the solar sector, PT PLN (Persero) is preparing to develop 100 GWp of solar power capacity to ensure sustainable national electricity supply. Additionally, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Indonesia has inaugurated a 1.4 MWp rooftop solar plant in Bekasi to reduce its carbon footprint.

Other developments include PT PLN EPI highlighting 60.6 million tons of untapped biomass potential for bioenergy, and PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) reporting a 35.3 percent reduction in emissions above its target through gas infrastructure and decarbonization efforts.
