Pertamina NRE launches bioethanol development center in Lampung

Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) has launched the Bioethanol Development Center in Tegineneng, Pesawaran Regency, Lampung. The facility serves as a pilot-scale platform for bioethanol development and testing, covering stages from feedstock development and cultivation to technology testing and production process validation.

The center utilizes a multi-feedstock and multi-generation technology approach, incorporating both first-generation (1G) and second-generation (2G) bioethanol production. This strategy aims to optimize local resources and support the establishment of a national bioethanol ecosystem.

The launch included the signing of two memorandums of understanding (MoUs). The first is a joint agreement between Pertamina NRE and the Lampung Provincial Government to develop agribusiness, energy security, and food security in the region. The second is an MoU between Pertamina NRE, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), Toyota Tsusho Indonesia (TTI), and the Research Association of Biomass Innovation for Next Generation Automobile Fuels (raBit) to explore the technical and commercial potential of sustainable bioethanol production and utilization in Indonesia.
