Pertamina NRE deploys renewable energy projects in Simalungun
Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) has implemented several renewable energy projects in Simalungun, North Sumatra. Through its Sekolah Energi Berdikari (SEB) program, the company provided SDN 091686 Gunung Bayu with a 2.8 kWp solar power plant, a 5 kWh battery, a borehole well, and renovated sanitation facilities. This initiative addresses a 15-year lack of reliable water and electricity for the school's 85 students and 15 teachers, with projected annual electricity savings of approximately Rp5.182 million and an emission reduction of 3,192 kg CO2e.
Additionally, Pertamina NRE is supporting the Sei Mangkei Special Economic Zone (KEK) using biogas and solar power. The biogas plant (PLTBg) utilizes palm oil mill effluent (POME) from PT Perkebunan Nusantara III to produce methane gas, generating approximately 44,000 kWh daily. Currently, the combined output of the biogas and solar facilities provides about 7.4 MW, meeting roughly 10 percent of the zone's 74 MW total electricity requirement.
