PLN accelerates Indonesia energy transition and biomass initiatives

PT PLN (Persero) is advancing Indonesia’s energy transition through several strategic initiatives. During the 81st National Electricity Day, PLN leadership emphasized a commitment to green energy sovereignty, including a target to implement a 100 gigawatt peak (GWp) solar power program and fulfill the Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL).

To support this transition, PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI) is optimizing the national biomass ecosystem, which has an estimated potential of 83.4 million tons per year. A new collaboration between the Ministry of Villages and PLN EPI will allow Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes) to supply biomass to coal-fired power plants (PLTU), starting with a pilot project in Serang, Banten, to supply the Suralaya PLTU.

Additionally, PLN is expanding its role in the electric vehicle ecosystem. Through a memorandum of understanding with Pertamina Patra Niaga and Len Industri, the company aims to develop integrated charging and battery swapping infrastructure to support the National Electric Motorcycle Program (Molinas).
