Perth Bears CEO Anthony De Ceglie resigns
Anthony De Ceglie has resigned as the inaugural chief executive of the Perth Bears, a rugby league franchise owned by the Australian Rugby League Commission. The departure comes as the club prepares for its entry into the competition in 2027.
De Ceglie, a former media executive at Seven West Media and editor-in-chief of The West Australian, had faced reports that he lacked board support. Despite recent efforts by ARLC chairman Peter V’landys to allow him time to solidify his position, De Ceglie stepped down just weeks before the squad begins preparations for the upcoming season.
Perth Bears head coach Mal Meninga commented on the internal dynamics, noting that there had been speculation regarding job security for both himself and De Ceglie. In a club statement, De Ceglie expressed pride in the team’s achievements and voiced confidence in the club’s future under the leadership of Meninga and assistant coach Ben Gardiner.
