Perth Bears: Peter V’landys dismisses reports of coaching friction
Peter V’landys, executive chairman of the Australian Rugby Commission, has dismissed reports of internal conflict between Perth Bears head coach Mal Meninga and assistant coach Ben Gardiner. V’landys stated that he has spoken with both coaches and believes the rumors of friction have been “blown out of proportion.”
The NRL-owned expansion team, set to enter the competition in 2027, is currently navigating a turbulent foundation period. The club is without a chief executive following the sudden resignation of Anthony De Ceglie, who reportedly lost the support of the board. This follows the April departure of the club’s first general manager of football, David Sharpe.
The Bears are scheduled to begin their inaugural pre-season next month. The club's board is tasked with appointing a new CEO to lead the organization.
