Perth Film Studios attracts 15,000 visitors during industry showcase

More than 15,000 people visited the Perth Film Studios in Malaga during a two-day open day event on 11 and 12 September. The showcase provided the public with a behind-the-scenes look at Western Australia’s growing screen industry through immersive activities, technical demonstrations, and workshops.

Visitors explored film sets and production spaces, observing demonstrations in lighting, camera work, special effects, and makeup. The event featured live music from the Perth Symphony Orchestra, stunt shows, and appearances by industry figures, including keynote speaker Ben Elton.

The Cook Labor Government has been investing in the state’s screen sector, stating that support for productions during 2025-26 contributed $64.2 million to the Western Australian economy. Creative Industries Minister Simone McGurk and Treasurer Rita Saffioti noted that the facility aims to support local talent, skills development, and career pathways for young people in the filmmaking industry.
