Perth fuel prices hit record monthly average in October
Fuel prices in Perth reached their highest monthly average in October, according to Fuel Watch data. The monthly average for unleaded petrol in the metropolitan area rose to $2.37 per litre, a significant increase from $1.68 per litre in January.
Weekly averages for unleaded petrol recently hit a high of $2.45 per litre, with expectations of further increases as prices approach the $2.50 mark. While diesel averages dropped to $2.76 per litre in October after a peak of $2.93 in April, prices remain a concern for the transport sector.
Cam Dumesny, chief executive of the WA Transport Industry Association, warned that high diesel prices are expected to persist through 2027. He noted that these costs impact trucks, trains, and shipping, which in turn contributes to inflation and rising grocery costs. Additionally, Dumesny highlighted risks to Western Australia’s single railway line and main road connection to the east coast due to high soil moisture and potential flooding.
