Perth man charged with murder after Penang-born woman dies

A 28-year-old woman originally from Penang, Kah Ming Tan, has died in Perth, Australia, following an alleged domestic assault. Her partner, 38-year-old Younis Qambari, has been charged with murder.

Tan was found unconscious at a residence on Taree Street in St James on August 26. She was transported to Royal Perth Hospital but later succumbed to her injuries. Homicide detectives allege that Tan had been assaulted several days prior to her hospitalization. At the time the incident occurred, Tan’s three children, aged three, five, and seven, were reportedly present in the home.

Tan’s family had previously expressed concerns regarding her safety, having contacted Western Australia Police approximately three months prior after noticing injuries on her body. Western Australia Premier Roger Cook addressed the incident, describing it as a “horrific situation” and a reminder of the necessity to combat gender-based and family violence.

Qambari remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on September 16.
