Perth Mint's 521‑kg Gold Bar Sets New Guinness World Record
The Perth Mint in Western Australia has produced a 521.2 kg gold bar, named the People’s Bar, with a purity of 99.999 % (the “five‑nines” standard). Certified by Guinness World Records, it is the largest gold bar ever made, surpassing the previous 300 kg record set in Dubai. The bar was forged from Australian‑origin gold supplied by major WA miners and required the work of more than 35 specialists across the Mint’s refinery and assay laboratory.
The bar’s metal value exceeds 100 million Australian dollars (about 65 million USD) and it will be displayed at the Perth Mint alongside a one‑ton gold coin that also holds a Guinness record. Perth Mint CEO Paul Graham said the project demonstrates the Mint’s refining technology and aims to promote Australia’s gold industry, while Western Australian Minister for Mines Daniel Pastorelli highlighted the achievement as a showcase of the state’s skilled workforce and economic contribution.
