Perth mother charged after fatal crash kills four-year-old daughter

Saoirse Wynne, 33, has been charged following a fatal vehicle collision in Canning Vale, Perth, that resulted in the death of her four-year-old daughter, Layna Leavy. The incident occurred on June 3 when Wynne’s Holden Astra collided with a Ford Mustang at the intersection of Boardman Road and Garden Street.

Wynne faces several charges, including careless driving causing death, careless driving causing grievous bodily harm or bodily harm, and driving without authority. She is also charged with failing to ensure a passenger aged four to seven was properly restrained in an approved child restraint. An eight-year-old son was also in the vehicle during the crash.

The family, who had recently migrated from Ireland to Australia, has received significant community support, including over $100,000 raised via GoFundMe to assist with funeral costs and grieving. Wynne is scheduled to appear in Armadale Magistrates Court on September 29.
