Perth paediatrician charged with 72 child sex offences

Dr Chia Liang Saw, a 41‑year‑old paediatrician in Perth, has been charged with a total of 72 offences involving 18 alleged victims, including six counts of indecent dealing with a child under 13, three counts of indecently recording a child under 13 and three counts of sexual penetration of a child under 13. Prosecutors added the latest charges after identifying additional victims, and the doctor remains on bail under strict conditions. Magistrate Matthew Walton said the bail conditions were extensive and warned that any breach could lead to a lengthy custodial term.

In a separate case, a 16‑year‑old boy accused of killing his mother and stabbing his 12‑year‑old sister in a Perth home failed to appear before the Children’s Court. The boy, who is under weekly psychiatric review, is now in the care of the Department of Communities. Magistrate Andree Horrigan emphasized that his health and wellbeing are paramount and described the repeated court appearances as “stressful and unnecessary.” The boy’s next hearing is scheduled for 18 September via video link.
