Perth Running Festival: Dominic Ngeno wins marathon
Dominic Ngeno won the men’s marathon at the Perth Running Festival, finishing in 2:16:52. Despite being on track for a course record, Ngeno was slowed by strong headwinds during the final 9km, missing the record by nine seconds. Japan’s Ryoma Takeuchi took second place with a time of 2:17:45, while Matt Smith finished third in 2:19:49.
In the women’s marathon, Kenya’s Antonina Kwambai set a new course record with a time of 2:28:06. The event saw a massive turnout with 18,500 registered runners across various distances, including the half-marathon, 10km, and 4km races. The marathon field of 5,500 participants was the largest ever held in Western Australia, featuring runners from 58 countries.
The festival, now in its third year, has raised over $600,000 for Telethon. Notable participant Kane Cornes completed the marathon in 2:54:25 as part of his fundraising efforts for sick children in Western Australia.
