Peru adolescent pregnancy rate falls to 7.4%
The adolescent pregnancy rate in Peru fell to 7.4% in 2025, according to Gregor von Medeazza, a representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). This marks a steady decline from over 9% three years ago and 8.4% in 2024.
Despite the national decrease, significant geographic disparities remain. In rural areas, the rate reaches 16.3%, which is triple the rate found in urban centers. In the Amazon region, the prevalence exceeds 14%, while urban areas report approximately 5%.
On average, five adolescents between the ages of 15 and 19 become pregnant every hour in Peru. Additionally, cases of girls under 14 being forced into motherhood due to sexual violence are reported daily, highlighting the need for strengthened prevention and protection measures.
