Peru boosts tourism leadership with APEC workshop and Travel Mart 2026
The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism organized an APEC‑funded workshop on adventure tourism in Lima, bringing together officials, experts and representatives from multilateral bodies, universities and private firms. Funded with US$48,200, the event presented early findings of a study on sustainable, inclusive adventure‑tourism products and highlighted topics such as innovation, risk management, gender inclusion and climate impacts. A technical report will be produced to guide future public policies.
At the same time, PROMPERÚ launched the Peru Travel Mart 2026, the country’s premier tourism‑marketing fair. About 200 international buyers from 26 nations attended, with expectations of US$18.5 million in business and more than 7,500 B2B meetings. The fair emphasized the decentralisation strategy, showcasing regional destinations and adding Australia as a new target market. Executive director Freddy José María Solano González noted the event’s role in strengthening Peru’s brand abroad.
Domestic tourism also shows strong growth. APAVIT predicts 49.7 million internal trips in 2026, driven by interest in nature, culture and experiential travel. The sector’s recovery is seen as a key pillar for the national economy, though challenges remain in infrastructure, connectivity and safety perception.
