Peru advances major renewable projects in Arequipa and Tacna
The Peruvian government plans to build its first green‑hydrogen export terminal in the Arequipa region, investing about $540 million. The facility will use solar and wind power, desalinated seawater and ammonia‑storage systems to produce hydrogen and green ammonia for international markets, with operations expected to start by the end of 2029.
Spanish renewable‑energy firm Grenergy seeks a definitive transmission concession to connect a proposed 200 MW solar plant at Locumba in Tacna. The project, valued at roughly $119 million, includes a 220 kV line to the national grid and has cleared environmental studies, though its generation licence is still pending.
Both initiatives signal Peru's push to diversify its economy and position the southern region as a hub for clean‑energy production and export.
