Peru advances preparations for 2026 regional and municipal elections

Preparations are underway for Peru’s 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections. The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) has extended the deadline for political organizations to submit their first campaign financial reports to September 18.

In Chincha and Pisco, the Decentralized Office of Electoral Processes (ODPE) has distributed credentials to 9,558 citizens designated as polling station members. These individuals are required to attend training sessions in late September. Failure to fulfill this mandatory role may result in an electoral fine of S/275.

Security measures are also being coordinated, with the National Police of Peru receiving training in San Isidro regarding their role in protecting citizens and electoral materials. Meanwhile, civil organizations, such as the Mesa de Concertación de Cajamarca, have expressed concern regarding the lack of informed voting among citizens ahead of the October 4 elections.
