Peru advances 2026 election preparations and candidate debates

Preparations for Peru’s 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections are advancing through various administrative and civic activities. The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) has extended the deadline for political organizations to submit their first financial reports to September 18. Additionally, the ODPE Chincha has begun distributing credentials to 9,558 designated polling station members in the Chincha and Pisco areas.

Electoral debates are also being organized to inform voters. In Puno, a regional debate is scheduled for September 18, featuring questions from the public and covering social, economic, institutional, and environmental axes. In Lima, the National Jury of Elections (JNE) has finalized the participation order for the municipal debates, which will take place on September 21 and 22, involving 26 political organizations.

In the Áncash region, the Chamber of Tourism has invited candidates for provincial and regional offices to a forum on September 17 to present their proposals for economic development through tourism.
