Peru agricultural exports face declines due to El Niño
Peruvian agricultural exports for table grapes and blueberries are facing downward revisions due to the adverse effects of the El Niño phenomenon.
The Association of Table Grape Producers of Peru (PROVID) projects a 9 percent year-on-year decline in table grape volume for the 2026/27 season, totaling 78.7 million boxes. While the southern region expects a 6 percent growth due to increased acreage, the northern region is projected to see a 28 percent decrease in production caused by an early harvest and smaller berry sizes.
Similarly, Proarándanos has lowered its blueberry export forecast for the 2026-27 season to approximately 366,000 tons, a 4.2 percent decrease from September estimates and a 4.4 percent drop from the previous season. This decline occurs despite a 15 percent increase in cultivated area. Industry representatives noted a significant downward trend in recent weeks, with a projected 31.2 percent decline in export volumes over the next eight weeks compared to the previous year.
