Peru allocates S/ 38.1 million for small-scale mining census
Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) will allocate S/ 38.1 million to fund the first National Census of Small-Scale and Artisanal Mining. The initiative is a collaborative effort involving the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) and the Geological, Mining and Metallurgical Institute (INGEMMET).
The census is expected to span 12 months and cover all 24 departments of Peru, targeting approximately 60,000 mining establishments. The goal is to collect, process, and analyze georeferenced statistical data regarding the operational, productive, and labor characteristics of the sector.
This data will serve as a foundation for developing and evaluating public policies related to mining formalization and sustainable development. To facilitate the process, INGEMMET will provide access to its geological and cadastral information systems, while MINEM will provide data from the Integral Mining Formalization Registry (REINFO).
