Peru and Chile resume consular services in Venezuela
Peru and Chile have announced the resumption of formal consular services in Venezuela as part of efforts to normalize bilateral relations.
The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Consulate General of Peru in Caracas has officially resumed its functions. Since September 2024, the Brazilian Embassy had provided support and protection to maintain essential services such as passport issuance, national identity document (DNI) processing, and civil registry tasks. While tourism and other migratory visas were temporarily suspended, the consulate will begin accepting and processing visa applications again starting November 1.
Similarly, Chilean consulates in Caracas and Puerto Ordaz have commenced in-person services for Chilean residents. Following a partial resumption of operations on October 19, the offices are now processing identity documents, notary acts, and civil registrations, such as births and marriages. Chilean Foreign Minister Francisco Pérez Mackenna noted that these operations aim to support the more than 25,000 Chileans residing in Venezuela.
