Peru and Ecuador report electricity sector growth in June 2026

In June 2026 Peru’s electricity generation rose 7.34% year‑on‑year, led by a 29.04% increase in thermoelectric output and a 13.38% rise from wind‑solar sources, while hydroelectric production fell 9.40%. The hydrocarbon subsector showed a modest 0.19% gain, driven by higher natural‑gas output, and domestic cement consumption jumped 12.54%.

Ecuador’s projected electricity demand for 2026 is set to climb 11.13% – the strongest growth in seven years – as economic expansion, population growth, mining activity and the adoption of electric vehicles increase load. Specialists warn the country must accelerate new generation capacity to close a 1,300 MW supply gap that has persisted since the 2023 power crisis.
