Peru and Guatemala grapple with delayed infrastructure projects and funding plans
In Peru, more than US$15 billion in infrastructure contracts have been awarded, yet 97% of the projects, including major road links such as the New Central Highway and the Peripheral Ring Road, lack defined start dates. Execution has been slow, with the transport sector seeing the highest potential investment while water and sanitation projects remain virtually stalled.
Guatemala’s 2027 budget earmarks roughly Q19 billion for critical public works, covering port upgrades, a multimodal logistics hub and rail connections coordinated with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The allocations fund feasibility studies and initial payments, but final cost estimates and long‑term financing mechanisms are still under development.
