Chile declares agricultural emergencies and launches flood relief across multiple regions
The Chilean government has declared agricultural emergencies in several regions after severe floods caused by a system frontal. The Ministry of Agriculture announced emergency status for the Araucanía region, enabling rapid mobilisation of resources for affected silvo‑agricultural producers. A similar declaration was made for the Ñuble region, covering more than 800 farmers, and an agricultural emergency was also confirmed for Atacama, Coquimbo and Valparaíso regions.
Humanitarian aid is being distributed nationwide. Over 80 tonnes of food, water, kits and other supplies have reached the hardest‑hit communes in Atacama, while the Army Aviation Brigade delivered 140 kg of food to families in Monte Patria (Coquimbo). Municipalities, the Sofo agricultural association and the Chilean Army together delivered 130 forage bundles to farmers in Temuco (Araucanía). In Los Lagos, 250 forage bundles were handed to small livestock producers, and in Atacama 2 400 sacks of alfalfa pellets were supplied to crianceros in Alto del Carmen and Freirina. The regional government also began the first payments of the Bono de Recuperación, benefitting more than 2 000 households.
A fundraising campaign by Mi Radio raised 22,348,610 CLP, which is being used for further assistance. Parliamentary figures, including Deputy Andrea Parra and Senator Karol Cariola, have called for faster emergency declarations, extended registration periods for the basic emergency questionnaire (FIBE), and additional support measures for the thousands of families whose homes and farms were damaged.
