Peru and Spain manage relocation of vulnerable populations

In Peru, the Minister of Women and Vulnerable Populations, Mara Seminario, has ordered the immediate relocation of minors following inspections that revealed overcrowding in Special Protection Units (UPE). At the UPE Lima Este, administrative areas will be reduced to expand space for 22 sheltered minors. The ministry currently cares for 88 children and adolescents nationwide, with 61 located in four Lima facilities. Additionally, the ministry is addressing vehicle maintenance issues and improving digital tracking to ensure the physical and mental health of those under state guardianship.

In Spain, the government has reactivated a former youth center in Purchena, Almería, to house 49 adult asylum seekers transferred from Málaga. The move has caused tension with local mayors in the Almanzora Valley, who claim they were not officially notified of the center's reopening. The facility, managed by Fundación Engloba, had been closed since 2020. While local authorities have worked to prevent rumors regarding the residents' profiles, the lack of prior communication has led to political friction between municipal leaders and the government sub-delegation.
