Peru and United Arab Emirates activate new air services agreement

Peru and the United Arab Emirates have officially implemented an Air Services Agreement (ASA) to enhance aviation connectivity between the two nations. Officialized by the Ministry of Transport and Communications through the Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics, the agreement removes previous restrictions regarding flight capacity, frequency, and aircraft types.

A key component of the deal is the inclusion of unlimited Fifth Freedom rights, allowing airlines to transport passengers and cargo between a second and third country as part of a route originating or ending in the airline's home state. The framework also encourages commercial alliances, such as code-sharing and intermodal transport.

The agreement aims to facilitate easier travel to hubs like Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with potential connections through Europe, Africa, or North America. Beyond passenger travel, the increased connectivity is expected to benefit Peru's agro-export sector, providing more efficient routes for time-sensitive products like blueberries, avocados, grapes, and asparagus to reach Middle Eastern markets.
